You know the feeling. An important counselling deadline is today. You open the AISSAC portal. The page spins. Then it stops. A blank screen, a 503 error, or a maintenance message stares back at you.
Your first instinct is to keep hitting refresh. Don't.
Parents reported login failures, OTP delays, and pages not loading - especially around result days and deadline evenings. The NTA portal itself slows badly when lakhs of families try to log in at the same time. During AISSEE ↗ 2026, the registration window was extended multiple times - partly because the server struggled with traffic surges near deadlines.
The portal going down near a deadline is predictable. What isn't predictable is how families respond. Here's what to do - in order - when the AISSAC website stops working.
Step 1 - Try the Official Alternate URL First
The AISSAC portal has more than one address. Most families only know the primary one. When that goes down, many don't realise there's a second official access point.
During AISSEE 2026, the Sainik Schools Society specifically announced the BISAG-N hosted version as an official alternate access point. Many parents who couldn't reach the first URL got through using that one.
Try these in sequence:
Primary portal: pesa.ncog.gov.in/sainikschoolecounselling
Official alternate (BISAG-N): sainikschoolssociety.bisag-n.gov.in/sainikschoolecounselling
Same login credentials work on both. If the primary server is overloaded, the alternate server may be functioning normally. This single step resolves the issue for many families without anything else needed.
Step 2 - Check the Official SSS Website Before Panicking
When the counselling portal is overloaded, official announcements still appear on the main Sainik Schools Society website at sainikschoolsociety.in.
During the AISSEE 2026 registration extension, the announcement about the window reopening from March 30 to April 1 appeared on the SSS site before most parents even knew. Any deadline extensions, maintenance notices, or portal status updates appear here first - not on WhatsApp groups, not on coaching institute pages, not on third-party websites.
Before assuming the worst, check the official SSS site. If there's a scheduled maintenance window or a confirmed deadline extension, it will say so there. Candidates and parents are advised to complete the registration process well before the deadline to avoid last-minute technical or connectivity issues. The extension was announced officially. Knowing where to look means you find that information immediately rather than hours later through rumours.
Step 3 - Clear Browser Cache and Switch to Incognito Mode
Sometimes the problem isn't the server at all - it's your own browser holding onto outdated session data that prevents the portal from loading correctly.
Clear your browser cache and cookies - press Ctrl+Shift+Delete on Windows or Command+Shift+Delete on Mac, delete cached files, then reload the site. Then open an Incognito or Private window. This bypasses stored data entirely and loads the page fresh. Many parents who spent hours unable to access the portal found it loaded immediately in a private browser window.
If the private window doesn't work either, try a different browser. The AISSAC portal occasionally behaves differently across browsers - if Chrome is struggling, try Firefox or Edge.
Step 4 - Try at Off-Peak Hours
This is the most reliable fix - and the most inconvenient one.
The server is significantly quieter between 11 PM and 5 AM. Many parents who struggled all day found the site working perfectly at midnight. Set an alarm. It sounds excessive. A seat in a Sainik School is worth a broken night of sleep.
The portal's congestion is entirely predictable. It peaks when everyone tries at once - morning hours, evening hours, and especially on deadline days. Trying at an off-peak time costs nothing and frequently resolves what appeared to be a technical impossibility during daylight hours.
Step 5 - If OTP Is Not Arriving
This deserves its own section because it's the most panic-inducing specific failure.
The OTP is generated on the registered mobile number and email ID that was used during AISSEE 2026 registration on the NTA portal. Before assuming a fault, confirm you're checking the right number and inbox - not your current SIM, the one registered with NTA during the original application months ago.
Check your spam or junk folder for the email OTP. Government portal emails frequently land in spam. Search your inbox for "AISSAC," "sainik," or "OTP" if the standard inbox shows nothing.
Don't click Send OTP repeatedly. Each click generates a new OTP and invalidates the previous one. One click - then wait 3 to 5 minutes before concluding it hasn't arrived.
If the registered mobile number is no longer active, email [email protected] immediately with your application number, roll number, and a clear description of the situation. Do this the same day - don't wait.
Step 6 - Email the Official Helpdesk
If the portal has been down for several hours and a deadline is approaching, email official channels while continuing to try the portal.
For AISSAC portal issues: [email protected] and [email protected]
For NTA registration issues: [email protected]
Write a clear, factual email. Include your child's name, AISSEE application number, roll number, the specific error you're encountering, and the deadline you're concerned about. Keep the email to the point - official helpdesks process many messages and a concise, clear email gets a faster response than a long narrative.
Keep the acknowledgment email as proof that you reported the problem before the deadline. If a deadline extension is announced, this documentation shows you were actively trying.
What Not to Do
Don't call random numbers found on Google claiming to be NTA or SSS helplines. There are fraudsters operating fake helplines during counselling season. The official SSS number is available only at sainikschoolsociety.in. Any phone number you find through a search engine that claims to be an AISSAC helpdesk should be verified against the official site before you call it.
Don't pay anyone to "check your status" or "register on your behalf." The entire AISSAC process is free. Anyone asking for money to help with portal access is committing fraud.
Don't stay on one failing URL for hours. If the primary portal won't load after 20 minutes of genuine attempts - move to the alternate URL, try off-peak hours, check the SSS official site for announcements, and email the helpdesk. Refreshing the same broken page for 4 hours produces nothing except anxiety.
Don't assume the deadline won't move. The AISSAC 2026 registration window was extended and reopened multiple times. Historically, when the portal has gone down near a deadline, the Sainik Schools Society has extended the window. But you cannot count on this - email the helpdesk the same day you face the problem rather than hoping for an extension that may or may not come.
The Real Protection Is Starting Early
Everything above is damage control. The actual protection is simpler and can only be applied before the crisis.
It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure timely completion of registration. Candidates and parents are advised to complete the registration process well before the deadline to avoid last-minute technical or connectivity issues.
That official guidance is practical, not bureaucratic. A family that registers on Day 3 of a two-week window has time to deal with technical problems. A family that tries for the first time on the final evening has no margin for the server failures that predictably happen at peak load.
Every AISSEE counselling deadline generates a last-day server crisis. Every one. This is known in advance. The families who are never affected by it are the ones who completed their step days earlier and are watching the chaos from a comfortable distance.
