What Is the RMS Class 9 Exam?
The Rashtriya Military School Common Entrance Test - called RMS CET - is held every December. For the 2026-27 session, it was conducted on December 7, 2025. Results came out on February 9, 2026.
Five Rashtriya Military Schools across India. Around 149 seats available for Class 9 in the 2026 session. That's across all categories combined - General, OBC, SC/ST, and defence quota.
The exam is offline, MCQ-based, no negative marking. Students can write in Hindi or English. Duration: 2.5 hours.
Eligibility for RMS Class 9 Admission 2026
Age: Born between April 1, 2011 and March 31, 2013 for the 2026-27 session - meaning the student must be between 11 and 13 years old as of March 31, 2026. Check the exact notification each year - dates shift slightly.
Academic: Passed Class 8 from a recognised school.
Category: Open to children of Army, Navy, Air Force personnel (with fee subsidies under JCOs/OR and Officers categories), as well as civilian candidates. SC/ST reservations apply as per government norms.
Medical fitness: Strict standards - vision, hearing, bone structure, and overall physical health. The written exam and interview mean nothing if the medical round fails.

Each subject carries 50 marks. All five subjects contribute to the final merit score. Unlike Class 6, where English is only qualifying, Class 9 merit calculation includes every subject.

RMS Class 9 Syllabus: What to Study
English - 50 Marks
Grammar, comprehension, vocabulary. Tenses, active-passive voice, synonyms, antonyms, error spotting, reading passages. The RMS entrance coaching approach here is simple - daily reading, daily grammar practice. Not complicated, just consistent.
Hindi - 50 Marks
Similar structure to English - grammar rules, comprehension passages, vocabulary, sentence correction. Students from Hindi-medium schools actually have a slight edge here if they've studied grammar carefully.
Social Science - 50 Marks
History, Geography, and Civics from NCERT Class 8. National movement, Constitution, resources, industries, maps. Map-based questions show up regularly - don't ignore them.
Mathematics - 50 Marks
NCERT Class 8 Maths - algebraic expressions, linear equations, mensuration, percentage, profit-loss, data handling, geometry. Maths and Science together form Paper II. A strong Paper II score is often what separates shortlisted candidates from those who miss the cut off by 5 or 10 marks.
Science - 50 Marks
Class 8 NCERT Science - force and pressure, light, sound, microorganisms, metals and non-metals, combustion, cell structure. Concept-based questions dominate. Memorising definitions helps less than understanding how things work.
RMS 2026 Cut Off Marks - Class 9

What does 140 out of 200 mean in practice? It means scoring roughly 28 out of 50 in each subject on average. That's not perfection - but it requires genuine preparation across all five subjects, not just Maths and Science.
Clearing the written exam is only phase one. Candidates on the merit list then face:
The Interview - assessed at the school campus. The panel checks confidence, communication, basic awareness, and personality. Harish's cousin told him later that the interviewer asked his son why he wanted to join RMS and not a regular school. His son said, "Sir, regular school nahi sikhata jo yahan milega." Clear. Direct. Honest. They liked that.
Medical Examination - conducted at an authorised military hospital. Strict standards. Check vision and hearing early in preparation - not the week before the exam.
How to Prepare: A Short, Practical Plan
Start with NCERT Class 8 books for all five subjects. Cover the full syllabus chapter by chapter. No shortcuts in Month 1.
From Month 2 - chapter-wise tests every week. Find weak spots early. Fix them before mock tests begin.
Month 3 onwards - full-length timed mock papers. 200 questions, 2.5 hours, OMR practice included. Review every paper carefully. Track which subject loses the most marks - that's where the extra hour each day goes.
Previous year RMS CET papers are essential. Question style and difficulty level repeat across years. Students who solve 5 years of papers feel the exam differently on the actual day - familiar, not foreign.
