See that Maths row? 150 out of 300. Half the exam. Right there.
Most parents are surprised by this. They assume GK or Language will save a weak Maths score. It won't. Not at this ratio.
What Each Subject Actually Tests
Mathematics - 150 Marks
This is the Sainik School Class 6 syllabus section that separates serious students from casual ones. Topics come from Class 4 and 5 NCERT - fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, time and distance, basic geometry, profit and loss.
Nothing exotic. But speed? That's where kids lose marks.
Each question carries 3 marks. Miss 10 questions - that's 30 marks gone. Arjun's mother told me later: "Humne Maths ko serious nahi liya September tak. Badi galti thi."
Language - 50 Marks
Students pick their medium during registration - Hindi, English, or regional. The section tests grammar, comprehension, vocabulary. Synonyms, antonyms, fill-in-the-blanks, simple passages.
One honest tip: read something every single morning. Newspaper, story book, anything. 15 minutes daily beats 3 hours on Saturday.
Intelligence / Reasoning - 50 Marks
AISSEE preparation guides often skip this section or mention it last. Don't make that mistake. Reasoning questions - series, mirror images, coding-decoding, analogies - can be mastered with just 10 questions a day.
Consistent practice. That's it. No shortcut, but also no mystery.
General Knowledge - 50 Marks
Current affairs, Indian history, geography, basic science, defence news. GK for this exam isn't random trivia - it leans toward India's armed forces, national symbols, important dates.
You can't cram GK in a week. One topic per day from Class 4 onwards. That's the only way.
Prep Tips That Actually Work
Build the OMR habit early. The AISSEE Class 6 exam uses OMR sheets. Most children in Class 5 have never filled one under time pressure. Practice this at home - print a sheet, set a timer, fill answers. Do it once a week minimum.
Previous year papers are gold. Solving previous year papers from 2021 to 2025 shows you the real difficulty level. Question style repeats even when content changes.
Don't let GK slide. One current affairs point per day. Stick it on the fridge if needed. By exam month, that's 180 points of knowledge. Compounded.
Mock tests matter more than mock notes. Full-length mock test series under timed conditions - that's what builds exam confidence. Notes are reference, not preparation.
One Thing Worth Saying
The Sainik School entrance exam doesn't reward cramming. It rewards rhythm. Students who study a little every day - Maths in the morning, GK at dinner, one reasoning puzzle before bed - outperform those who go hard for one month and burn out.
