Gandhi's first Satyagraha in India happened here.
Before Kheda. Before Non-cooperation. Before Salt March. The first Satyagraha Gandhi led on Indian soil was the Champaran Satyagraha of 1917. And it started in this district.
Raj Kumar Shukla - an ordinary indigo farmer, a ryot - walked to the Indian National Congress session in Lucknow in 1916. He found Gandhi. He told him about the Tinkathia system: British planters forcing farmers to grow indigo on three kathas of every bigha of land. The price paid was fixed regardless of crop quality. If a farmer refused, he faced crushing fines.
Shukla spent months persuading Gandhi to come to Champaran. Gandhi arrived in April 1917. The British ordered him to leave. He refused. His first act of civil disobedience on Indian soil. The Government Commission that followed ended the Tinkathia system.
Bettiah was the centre of this movement. The investigation hearings happened here. The ashrams Gandhi established for workers were here. The Catholic mission that the Bettiah Raj had welcomed in 1740 - the oldest Catholic mission in Bihar - was here.
Valmiki Tiger Reserve is 60 kilometres from Bettiah. Nepal border to the north. The district's ancient name comes from Baint (cane) plants. Champaran itself derives from Champaka Aranya - the forest of Champa (Magnolia) trees.
Population 3.94 million. Literacy 58.06% - one of Bihar's lowest. This is the honest context for families considering AISSEE preparation here.
Bihar has Sainik School Nalanda at Rajgir. Bihar state quota. Bettiah families compete within Bihar only.
Lower literacy means the preparation gap is wider - but also means the impact of specific preparation is greater. A well-prepared Bettiah child competes identically with a child from Patna.
Pattern recognition: 16-week arc from April - 70-80%. October: 55-65%.
Number series: Agricultural Champaran economy. Practical arithmetic. AISSEE ↗ trap: calculation replacing recognition. April practice.
Analogies: Bhojpuri dominant (91.86%). Strong mother-tongue vocabulary. Verbal analogy: 64-70% without training. Numerical and logical: six weeks each. Combined: +8-12 marks.
Spatial reasoning: Flat Terai plains - alluvial terrain near Nepal border. First-mock accuracy: 18-25%. April training: 63-70%. October: 45-55%.
The Champaran Satyagraha (1917): Gandhi's first Indian Satyagraha, Tinkathia system, Raj Kumar Shukla, the Government Commission - among the most tested AISSEE modern India history facts. Children from Bettiah who know this as their city's own history retain it permanently.
Valmiki Tiger Reserve: Bihar's main tiger habitat, Valmiki Nagar, the Gandak river - wildlife and conservation GK.
Nepal border: Indo-Nepal relations, the Terai geography, open border trade - testable geography.
Bettiah Raj: zamindari history, Mughal connections, British colonial administration - testable.
Gap areas: defence organisation, constitutional articles, science GK. Systematic coverage from April adds 10-15 marks.
Eight students. One specialist per section. Weekly mocks. Real format. Section-wise diagnosis. October honest conversation. OMR from day one. Medical round throughout.
Class 6 - Age 10-12. March 31 cutoff. Class 9 - Age 13-15. March 31 cutoff. Check now.
5,228 sq km, Nepal border, 18 blocks, 1,483 villages. Daily coaching travel is impractical from most of the district. Online batch: same teachers, same mocks, same diagnosis.
Families compare notes - some checking Sainik school coaching in Telangana fees - because when preparation works, the border name stops mattering.
April: English and Intelligence arcs complete - both need the full 8 months for lower-literacy backgrounds. Spatial training closes. January - prepared.
October: both arcs start but don't finish. January arrives first.
Raj Kumar Shukla walked to the Congress session in Lucknow and didn't stop until Gandhi came to Champaran. AISSEE preparation requires the same persistence. Start in April.
