Sainik School Tilaiya - established in 1963, located near Tilaiya Dam in Koderma district - is Jharkhand's dedicated Sainik School and one of the most storied institutions in the country. Over 700 of its alumni have gone on to the National Defence Academy ↗.

The school has 118 Class 6 seats - the largest Class 6 intake of any Sainik School in India. 78 of those are for Jharkhand domicile students.

A child from Dhanbad, Jharia, Sindri, Topchanchi or Nirsa holds a Jharkhand domicile. They do not compete with the national open pool for those 78 seats. They compete only among Jharkhand students. That is a structural advantage most families in Dhanbad do not fully appreciate.

What the AISSEE Is - and What It Is Not

The AISSEE is not a difficult exam in the way a JEE is difficult. The content for Class 6 - Maths, GK, Language and Intelligence - is CBSE Class 5 level. Most children in Dhanbad schools know it reasonably well.

Eligibility

Girls can apply for Class 6. Sainik School Tilaiya has 12 girl seats, with dedicated Jharkhand girl quota seats. Twelve seats for the whole state. Those go to the best-prepared girls. If your daughter is in the right age group, start early - not when the form opens.

Registration opens in October. Exam in January. Results in March. Class 4 or Class 5 is the right time to begin.
