Kangchenjunga is visible from Gangtok.

8,586 metres. Third-highest mountain on Earth. India's highest peak - sitting on the Sikkim-Nepal border, its summit visible from Gangtok's ridges on clear mornings. The Khangchendzonga National Park that surrounds it covers 35% of Sikkim's total area and was designated India's first "Mixed Heritage" UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016 - both natural and cultural significance recognised simultaneously.

Sikkim became India's 22nd state on May 16, 1975, after a referendum in which 97.5% of voters chose union with India. Before that, Gangtok had been the capital of an independent monarchy for decades.

Nathu La pass - 50 kilometres from Gangtok - connects India to Tibet (China). It was closed after the 1962 Sino-Indian War and reopened for limited trade in 2006. The Silk Road trade between Lhasa and Kolkata once flowed through this pass.

In 2016, Sikkim declared itself India's first fully organic state.

Gangtok means "hilltop." 1,650 metres elevation. Population 100,286.

Quota note for Sikkim families: Sikkim does not have a dedicated Sainik School with a Sikkim state quota. Children from Gangtok and across Sikkim compete under the All-India open category at any Sainik School they apply to. This places Sikkim children in national competition - which makes preparation quality the decisive factor.

AISSEE - The National Pool Demands Maximum Preparation

Without a state quota, Sikkim children compete nationally. In the national pool, children from states with established AISSEE ↗ coaching cultures (Bihar, UP, Rajasthan) compete alongside. Intelligence accuracy of 55-60% (October-start) is not competitive nationally. 70-80% (April-start) is.

Pattern recognition, number series, analogies, spatial reasoning. Absent from every school curriculum. Untrained: 20-25%. After 16 weeks from April: 70-80%.

Pattern recognition - the four-phase arc, more important without state quota cushion

Phase 1 (Weeks 1-4): Scanning reflex. 38-46%.

Phase 2 (Weeks 5-8): Compound detection. Requires Phase 1 automaticity. 55-65%.

Phase 3 (Weeks 9-12): AISSEE speed. 65-72%.

Phase 4 (Weeks 13-16): Full mocks, diagnosis. 70-80%.

October: 55-60%. In a national pool, this is not competitive.

Number series - Himalayan economy and the recognition requirement

Cardamom, ginger, orange farming. Tourism and government service economy. Practical arithmetic. AISSEE complex series types require type-recognition under 45-second time limit. April practice across all 15+ types.

Analogies and spatial reasoning

Verbal: Nepali dominant, with Bhutia, Lepcha, English multilingual environment. Strong multilingual relationship-identification instincts. 67-74% verbal accuracy without training - above national average. Numerical and logical: 6 weeks each.

Spatial: Gangtok at 1,650m, Eastern Himalayan ridge terrain. Steep slopes, river valleys, Kangchenjunga visible. Among the strongest spatial baselines in any city in this entire series.

First-mock accuracy: 36-46%. April training: 70-80%. October: 55-65%.

The Himalayan terrain advantage is the highest in this batch. It still requires April to convert.
