Jorethang sits where trade routes converge.
On the Rangit River in South Sikkim. The roads from Gangtok, Namchi, Gyalshing, and West Bengal's Kalimpong and Darjeeling all pass through or near here. The main commercial hub of South Sikkim - where cardamom, ginger, and agricultural produce from across the south of the state are traded. Sub-division headquarters of Namchi district.
Brewing and distilling industries - part of Sikkim's small industrial base - operate in this area. Small town with big connectivity. Altitude approximately 300-400m at the river level, rising to higher terrain above.
No Sikkim state quota Sainik School. Jorethang families compete under all-India open category.
National competition. No state quota cushion. April preparation is what creates competitive Intelligence scores.
Pattern recognition, number series, analogies, spatial reasoning. Untrained: 20-25%. After 16 weeks from April: 70-80%.
Pattern recognition - what makes each phase necessary
Phase 1 (Weeks 1-4) changes how children look at sequences. Before training, children read sequences left-to-right looking for obvious relationships. After Phase 1, they scan all positions simultaneously for specific properties - orientation, count, shading, form. This perceptual shift takes 3-4 weeks of repeated practice. It cannot be shortcut. Accuracy: 38-46%.
Phase 2 (Weeks 5-8) builds compound detection. After finding Rule 1, the trained child asks: "Is there still unexplained variation?" This verification habit requires Phase 1 to be automatic - parallel cognitive tasks need Phase 1 to run without conscious effort. Accuracy: 55-65%.
Phase 3 (Weeks 9-12): AISSEE ↗ speed. Full checklist in 15-20 seconds. Accuracy: 65-72%.
Phase 4 (Weeks 13-16): Full mocks, section diagnosis. Accuracy: 70-80%.
October: Phase 2 half-formed. 55-60%.
Number series - trade-route arithmetic and the recognition gap
Commercial Jorethang produces arithmetically confident children. The AISSEE number series section traps confident calculators with complex types. April practice across 15+ types builds type-recognition.
Analogies and spatial reasoning
Verbal: Nepali dominant, multilingual border-trade community. 66-73% verbal accuracy without training. Numerical and logical: 6 weeks each.
Spatial: Rangit River valley - mixed terrain, rising sharply from river level. First-mock: 28-36%. April training: 66-74%. October: 50-60%.
Rangit River (major Teesta tributary): Sikkim's river geography - testable.
Jorethang as South Sikkim's commercial hub: Sikkim's economic geography - testable.
Teesta River system: Sikkim's rivers, Teesta flowing to Bangladesh - testable.
Sikkim as India's 22nd state (1975): modern history - testable.
Eight students. One specialist per section. Weekly mocks. Section-wise diagnosis. October conversation. OMR from day one.
