Sainik School Kazhakootam in Thiruvananthapuram is roughly 75 kilometres from Kayamkulam. Kerala's only Sainik School. Established in 1962. 74 Class 6 seats - 49 reserved for Kerala domicile students.

A child from Kayamkulam, Harippad, Mavelikara, Chengannur or Mavelikkara holds a Kerala domicile. They compete only among Kerala students for those 49 seats. Not the national open pool. Just Kerala.

Why the AISSEE Is Harder Than It Looks

Most families assume that if their child does well in school, the AISSEE ↗ will follow naturally. It usually does not - and the reason is almost always the same.

The AISSEE tests Maths, GK, Language and Intelligence for Class 6. CBSE Class 5 curriculum - familiar content. But the format is completely different from anything a school exam does.

OMR sheets. 150 minutes. Four subjects in one unbroken sitting. No separate papers, no extra time between sections. A question that looks odd at the 80-minute mark and costs two minutes of hesitation. A bubble darkened one row off because the child was rushing in the final minutes.

None of this reflects how much they studied. It reflects how much they practised the actual experience of sitting this exam.

The minimum to enter the medical shortlist is 25% per subject and 40% aggregate. The real Kerala home-state cut-off at Kazhakootam is higher - sometimes significantly. A child who has done twenty full-length timed mock tests before January is in a fundamentally different position from one who has done three.
