Sainik School Kazhakootam sits in Thiruvananthapuram district - roughly 70 kilometres from Kollam. Kerala's only Sainik School. Established in 1962. One of the oldest in the country.

The numbers matter. 74 Class 6 seats total. 49 reserved for Kerala domicile students. A child from Kollam, Punalur, Kottarakkara, Karunagappally or Chavara holds a Kerala domicile. They compete only within that Kerala home-state pool - not against the entire country.

The AISSEE Is Not Like Any School Exam Your Child Has Taken

This needs to be said clearly. School exams test one subject at a time, allow generous time, use written answers, and rarely simulate real pressure. The AISSEE does none of those things.

Four subjects - Maths, GK, Language and Intelligence - in one 150-minute sitting, on an OMR sheet, with no breaks. 125 questions totalling 300 marks. Maths alone carries 150 marks - 50 questions at 3 marks each. The remaining 75 marks are split across GK, Language and Intelligence at 2 marks per question.

Maths is where the exam is won or lost for most students. Accuracy and speed in Maths is the single biggest differentiator between children who clear the Kerala cut-off and those who do not.

The OMR format adds another layer. Bubbles must be filled correctly under a running clock. One wrong row means every subsequent answer is off. A child who has never practiced on an OMR sheet will make errors that have nothing to do with their subject knowledge.

Minimum qualifying marks: 25% per subject, 40% aggregate. These are just the medical shortlist filters. The real Kerala home-state cut-off is much higher. Only consistent, structured preparation - starting early - builds a score that competes.

Eligibility

Girls can apply for Class 6. Sainik School Kazhakootam has 10 girl seats - Kerala domicile girl seats within that allocation. Competitive. Start early.

Registration opens in October. Exam in January. Results in March. Class 4 or Class 5 is when preparation should begin - not October.
