Someone's father works with BRO. Road construction up near Rohtang.
His son wants to follow him into service - not roads, but uniform. The boy is eleven. Smart, curious, the kind of kid who asks too many questions in class.
He sat for AISSEE last January. Didn't clear it.
His father called us in March. Not angry. Just confused. "He's not a weak student. So what happened?"
We hear this every single year from Manali.
There's something about growing up here that makes defence feel personal.
ITBP personnel on the streets. BRO workers heading up toward Rohtang before dawn. Army convoys moving through the valley when tensions rise. Children in Manali don't read about national service in textbooks - they see it outside their windows.
That context matters. The motivation in Kullu district families, especially in Manali and the villages around it - Jagatsukh, Naggar, Palchan, Solang - it's genuine. Not manufactured.
But AISSEE still doesn't give marks for motivation. The exam is the exam.
He wasn't weak. His school marks were fine.
The problem - and this is the same problem we see with most Manali children who don't clear AISSEE - is that nobody had shown him how the exam actually works.
AISSEE reasoning questions are nothing like school tests. The GK comes from angles that Class 5 textbooks never touch. The Maths isn't hard exactly, but it's framed to trip you up if you haven't practised that specific format.
Four months of school revision doesn't fix that. Neither does downloading sample papers and going through them once.
What fixes it is proper, structured preparation. Starting early. With people who know this exam inside out.
Small batches first. Always.
When a teacher is managing thirty students, they get through the chapter and move on. Ten students - they notice who's getting the intelligence section wrong week after week. They slow down. They fix it.
That's the difference that matters.
Parents hear honest updates. Not just the good news.
NTA runs it. Every January.
Class 6 - Age 10 to 12 years (as of March 31 of exam year) Maths ยท English ยท General Knowledge ยท Intelligence Test
Class 9 - Age 13 to 15 years (as of March 31 of exam year) Maths ยท English ยท GK ยท Science ยท Social Studies
Before anything else - check your child's date of birth against the age window. March 31 is the cutoff date. A child who turns 13 on April 2 is ineligible for Class 9 that year. It's a technicality that costs families a full year's wait. Check it first.
October arrives and Rohtang gets complicated. November, the valley tightens. Daily travel to coaching - in any direction - becomes unrealistic for most families between Manali and Keylong, or up toward Sissu.
The Sainik school coaching online batch wasn't built as a backup option. It's a full program. Live classes on set days. Recorded sessions available all week for replay. Sunday tests. WhatsApp for doubts through the week.
A student in Jagatsukh gets exactly what someone in Manali town gets. Same teachers, same tests, same honest feedback after every mock.
Students from far outside HP join too - some comparing Sainik school coaching in Telangana options, some checking Sainik school coaching in Telangana fees - because when coaching is genuinely good, the pin code stops mattering.
April. May at the absolute latest.
There's a version of this where a family joins in October, panics through November and December, and the child walks into the January exam feeling like they've been running to catch a bus the whole time.
Then there's the version where preparation starts in April. Eight months of steady, calm, structured work. Mock tests from June. Weak areas identified by August and fixed by October.
The second version produces selections. The first one mostly produces the phone calls we get in March.
No guarantees of selection here. That's not something honest coaching says.
What SainikGuru offers - your child knows the exam properly, has written real mock tests under exam conditions, has had their weak areas genuinely worked on. They walk in prepared. After that, it's between them and the paper.
Most parents who've been through the full program say the same thing afterward.
"At least we know we did everything right."
