Defence service is present in this district the way it's present across most of HP - quietly, through families. An uncle who served in Kumaon Regiment. A grandfather's photograph in uniform on the wall. Younger siblings watching older cousins go through NDA.

That pull toward service is real here. AISSEE is how it begins. But between wanting to clear AISSEE and actually clearing it - there's a gap that most families in Mandi don't see until January, when it's too late.

What the Gap Actually Is

The Jogindarnagar parent's son was not a weak student. His school marks were fine. He worked genuinely hard for three months.

The problem - AISSEE doesn't test what school tests. Not even close.

Intelligence reasoning. Series, analogies, pattern recognition, spatial problems. No school in Mandi - or anywhere in HP - teaches this in their regular curriculum. A child seeing the section for the first time in the exam hall is a child seeing it too late.

Class 6 - Age 10 to 12 years (cutoff: March 31 of exam year) Maths · English · General Knowledge · Intelligence Test

Class 9 - Age 13 to 15 years (cutoff: March 31 of exam year) Maths · English · GK · Science · Social Studies

One thing - check the date of birth right now. March 31 is hard. No exceptions, no appeals. A child who is twelve years and three weeks old on that date is ineligible for Class 6. It's a detail that costs families a full year, and it happens more than it should.
