The Teesta and the Rani Khola meet just below Singtam.
The town sits at their confluence - 423 metres, East Sikkim's main commercial junction between Gangtok (30km north) and Rangpo (30km south). Every trade route between South and North Sikkim passes through.
The Teesta-V Hydroelectric Project - 510 MW, built by NHPC, commissioned 2008 - operates at Balutar near Singtam. One of the larger hydropower projects on the Teesta. The Advanced Technical Training Centre (ATTC) at Bardang, Singtam, is a state-run engineering polytechnic.
October 2023 flash floods - triggered by glacial lake Lhonak bursting - struck Singtam severely. Bridges collapsed. Over 500 families were displaced.
No Sikkim state quota. All-India open category competition.
Pattern recognition, number series, analogies, spatial reasoning. Untrained: 20-25%. After 16 weeks from April: 70-80%.
Pattern recognition - precision about why 16 weeks cannot compress
The four phases of pattern recognition training exist because each produces cognitive changes the next phase requires:
Phase 1 (Weeks 1-4): The child forms a scanning reflex - automatic property checking when viewing sequences. Without this reflex, Phase 2 doesn't work. 38-46%.
Phase 2 (Weeks 5-8): Compound detection requires the Phase 1 reflex to be automatic. Only then is cognitive capacity available to scan for a second rule. 55-65%.
Phase 3 (Weeks 9-12): Speed requires Phase 2 habits to be automatic. The full process must run in 30-40 seconds. 65-72%.
Phase 4 (Weeks 13-16): Full mocks require Phase 3 speed with Phase 2 accuracy. 70-80%.
The phases are sequential dependencies - not parallel activities that can overlap or compress. October collapses them into 10 weeks. Phase 2 is still forming by January.
Number series - commercial Singtam and the recognition requirement
Singtam's pharmaceutical industries and Teesta trade economy produce arithmetically confident children. The AISSEE ↗ number series section traps confident calculators. Recognition built from April across 15+ types is the answer.
Analogies and spatial reasoning
Verbal: Nepali dominant, multilingual commercial town. 66-73% verbal accuracy without training. Numerical and logical: 6 weeks each.
Spatial: Singtam is at 423m - relatively low, valley floor terrain. The Teesta river valley rises sharply around. First-mock: 24-31%. April training: 65-72%. October: 47-55%.
Teesta-V Hydroelectric Project (510 MW, NHPC, Balutar, 2008): India's hydropower geography, NHPC projects - testable.
Teesta River (origin, flow through Sikkim, West Bengal, Bangladesh): testable physical geography.
2023 Sikkim flash floods (Lhonak glacial lake outburst): testable current affairs and environmental science.
ATTC at Bardang, Singtam: Sikkim's technical education - testable institutional GK.
Eight students. One specialist per section. Weekly mocks. Section-wise diagnosis. October conversation. OMR from day one.
Class 6 - Age 10-12. March 31 cutoff. Class 9 - Age 13-15. March 31 cutoff.
