What the AISSEE Actually Tests - and Why It Is Harder Than It Looks

The exam is conducted by NTA, offline, on OMR answer sheets. Class 6 paper: 150 minutes. Class 9: 180 minutes. No negative marking.

Four subjects for Class 6: Mathematics, General Knowledge, Language and Intelligence. All from CBSE Class 5 curriculum. The content is not the issue. Most children know it well enough.

What trips them up is the format itself.

Filling OMR bubbles under a running clock is a physical skill. It requires practice - not just knowledge. A child who has never done it under timed conditions will make errors that have nothing to do with how much they studied. A misaligned row. Two minutes lost on one confusing question. Momentum broken mid-paper and never recovered.

These are preparation failures, not knowledge failures. And the only way to fix them is by doing full-length timed mock tests - again and again - before January.

After the written test, shortlisted candidates go through a medical examination. Then e-counselling, where they select school preferences and get seat allotted based on rank. Every stage has its own requirements. Knowing what is coming reduces panic significantly.

Eligibility
