A Sufi saint smuggled coffee seeds from Yemen in the 17th century.
Baba Budan. He was returning from Hajj in Mecca. He hid seven coffee beans in his belt - at a time when the Arab world strictly prohibited the export of live coffee plants or seeds. He brought them to the hills of present-day Chikmagalur district. He planted them at what is now called Bababudangiri (Chandradrona Parvatha).
India's coffee industry began on those seven seeds.
The Bababudangiri Hills now carry his name. The coffee estates of Chikmagalur - arabica, robusta, and rare varieties - supply significant portions of India's coffee export. The district produces approximately 33% of Karnataka's coffee output.
Chikmagalur means "town of the younger daughter" in Kannada. Rukmangada, the chief of Sakrepatna, gave this town as dowry to his younger daughter - and the name stuck.
Mullayanagiri stands at 1,930 metres - the highest peak in Karnataka. The Bhadra, Tunga, Hemavathi, and Vedavathi rivers originate in Chikmagalur's Western Ghats. The district has 55% forest cover.
The Hoysala dynasty began here. The founding legend: Sala, the dynasty's founder, killed a tiger at a place called Sosevur (Angadi village, Mudigere taluk). The Hoysala crest - a warrior fighting a tiger - commemorates this act. Later the Hoysalas built Belur, Halebidu, and Somnathapura - three of India's finest temple sites.
Indira Gandhi won a by-election from Chikmagalur in November 1978 - her comeback to Parliament after losing in 1977.
Population 1.14 million. Literacy 71.91%.
Karnataka has Sainik School Kodagu and Sainik School Bijapur with Karnataka state quota. Chikmagalur children with Karnataka domicile compete within the Karnataka quota pool.
Pattern recognition: 16-week arc from April - 70-80%. October: 55-65%.
Number series: Coffee estate economy - yield calculations, market prices, estate management arithmetic. Strong practical number sense. AISSEE ↗ trap: calculation replacing recognition. April practice.
Analogies: Kannada dominant (98%). Literary district - Chikmagalur's Western Ghats setting has produced nature poets and writers. Verbal analogy: 65-72% without training. Numerical and logical: six weeks each. Combined: +8-12 marks.
Spatial reasoning - Western Ghats mountain advantage
Mullayanagiri at 1,930m. Western Ghats. Dense forest hills. Coffee estates on slopes. Rivers originating in the hills. Children who grow up in this terrain develop exceptional three-dimensional spatial awareness.
First-mock accuracy: 32-40%. April training: 68-76%. October: 52-62%.
One of Karnataka's strongest spatial training baselines - comparable to Arunachal's mountain districts.
India's first coffee (Bababudangiri, 17th century): specifically testable AISSEE GK. "Where did coffee first come to India?" - Chikmagalur, Baba Budan, 7 seeds from Yemen.
GI-tagged Chikmagalur coffee: India's GI-tagged agricultural products - testable economic GK.
Mullayanagiri (1,930m): highest peak in Karnataka - testable physical geography.
Hoysala dynasty origins (Sosevur/Angadi, Chikmagalur): Belur, Halebidu, Somnathapura temples - testable medieval India architecture.
Indira Gandhi's 1978 by-election: specific modern political history - testable.
Rivers originating in Chikmagalur (Bhadra, Tunga, Hemavathi, Vedavathi): Karnataka river geography - testable.
Gap areas: defence organisation, constitutional articles, science GK. Systematic coverage from April adds 10-15 marks.

7,202 sq km of Western Ghats terrain. Daily coaching travel from remote coffee estate areas impractical. Online batch delivers identical preparation across all 7 talukas.
Families compare notes - some checking Sainik school coaching in Telangana fees - because when preparation works, the estate altitude stops mattering.
April: Western Ghats spatial advantage fully converted (68-76%), Intelligence complete, coffee and Hoysala GK activated. January - prepared.
October: spatial at 52-62%, week 10 only. January first.
Baba Budan planted seven seeds with patience and let the Western Ghats terrain do what it was suited for. AISSEE preparation requires the same - plant in April, let eight months do the work.
