The oldest known inscription in the Kannada language is in Hassan district.
Halmidi village, Belur taluk. Dated 450 CE. A small stone. 19 lines in Old Kannada script. Kannada - the language with the second longest unbroken literary tradition in India after Sanskrit - begins here, in this district, in this village.
The Hoysala Empire - the dynasty that built some of India's most intricately carved temples - had both its capitals in Hassan district. Belur (Velapuri) was the early capital. Halebidu (Dwarasamudra - the Gateway Sea) was the later capital, named for the lake that surrounded it.
In 2023, UNESCO designated the Hoysala Sacred Ensembles - Belur, Halebidu, and Somnathapura (in Mysuru district) - as World Heritage Sites. The temples are carved from chloritic schite (soapstone), which softens on exposure to air and then hardens. The Hoysala sculptors exploited this property to create carvings of extraordinary intricacy - more detailed than any comparable Indian temple tradition.
At Shravanabelagola in Channarayapatna taluk: the Gommateshwara statue. Carved in 981 CE from a single monolithic rock, standing 57 feet tall. At the time of its carving, the tallest free-standing statue in the world. A Digambara Jain monument - consecrated every 12 years in the Mahamastakabhisheka ceremony when thousands of devotees pour milk, curds, saffron, and gold over the statue from scaffolding.
According to Jain tradition, Emperor Chandragupta Maurya renounced his empire and spent his last years at Shravanabelagola under Jain sage Bhadrabahu - and died fasting here. The Chandragupta Basadi temple marks this.
Hassan is also the district of ISRO's Master Control Facility - the ground station that controls India's INSAT geostationary satellites from launch to retirement.
HD Deve Gowda - 11th Prime Minister of India - from Hassan.
Population 1.78 million. Literacy 75.89%.
Karnataka has Sainik School Kodagu and Sainik School Bijapur (Karnataka state quota). Hassan children compete within Karnataka's quota pool.
Pattern recognition: 16-week arc from April - 70-80%. October: 55-65%.
Children who grow up near Hoysala temples - absorbing intricate geometric repetitions in soapstone, the star-shaped platforms, the repeating friezes of animals and deities - develop pattern cognition from architectural exposure. Modest but consistent early-weeks advantage in pattern recognition training.
Number series: Agricultural Hassan (coffee, vegetables, areca). Practical arithmetic. AISSEE ↗ trap: calculation replacing recognition. April practice.
Analogies: Kannada dominant (93.85%). Strong literary tradition from oldest Kannada inscription district. Verbal analogy: 66-73% without training. Numerical and logical: six weeks each. Combined: +8-12 marks.
Spatial reasoning: Mixed terrain - Western Ghats malnad hills to the west and southwest, plains in the north and east. Bisle Ghat. 950m altitude at Hassan city. Moderate spatial baseline. First-mock accuracy: 26-34%. April training: 66-74%. October: 48-57%.

Families compare notes - some checking Sainik school coaching in Telangana fees - because when preparation works, the inscription age stops mattering.
April: Hoysala terrain spatial advantage converted, UNESCO and ISRO GK depth activated, Intelligence completes. January - prepared.
October: week 10, spatial incomplete, UNESCO 2023 current affairs GK unreached. January first.
The Hoysala sculptors worked on each temple for decades - one chisel stroke at a time, knowing they would not see the completion. AISSEE preparation requires the same sustained commitment from April.
