Kurnool was the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
From October 1, 1953 to October 31, 1956. Three years, thirty days. Then Hyderabad became the capital when the Telugu-speaking areas of Hyderabad State merged to form unified AP. Kurnool - the first capital - handed over and became what it is now: the gateway of Rayalaseema.
"Kandanavolu." The greasing place. Bullock cart caravans crossing the Tungabhadra River stopped here to grease their wheels. "Kandana" means grease. A city named after the act of maintaining your equipment before a journey.
Rock paintings in Jurreru Valley, 18km from the city - dated to 35,000-40,000 years ago. Among the oldest rock art in India. Ashoka's rock edicts at Erragudi - among the oldest inscriptions discovered in India. The Belum Caves nearby - second longest cave system in the Indian subcontinent, 3,229 metres, stalactites and stalagmites and underground rivers, Jain and Buddhist monks once lived inside, 4500 BCE vessels found by archaeologists.
After monsoon rains wash away topsoil in some parts of the district - diamonds are sometimes found.
Damodaram Sanjeevaiah - the first Dalit Chief Minister of India - was from Kurnool. PV Narasimha Rao, India's 10th Prime Minister, won his record parliamentary majority from Nandyal constituency in this district.
A district of ancient roots and national consequence. And the same AISSEE preparation gap as everywhere else.
Sainik School Kalikiri is in YSR Kadapa district - Kurnool's neighbouring district to the east. As geographically close as it gets for Kurnool families.
67% AP state quota. Kurnool children compete within AP only. The school is one district away.
Preparation quality converts this geographic advantage into an actual selection.
Pattern recognition: 16-week training arc from April - 70-80%. October start - 55-65%. Universal gap.
Number series: Kurnool's commercial and agricultural families - cotton, groundnuts, tobacco, iron ore, mineral extraction - produce arithmetically confident children. The AISSEE ↗ trap is the same: calculation replacing recognition. Weekly type-recognition practice from April builds what arithmetic confidence doesn't.
Analogies: Telugu (67.91%) and Urdu (28.17%) bilingual Kurnool families - particularly the large Urdu-speaking community - produce children with strong language relationship-identification instincts. Verbal analogy accuracy: typically 66-73% without training - above AP average. Numerical and logical analogies: six weeks each. Combined: +8-12 marks.
Spatial reasoning - Kurnool's genuine advantage
Here is what makes Kurnool different from the coastal plains districts.
Kurnool is not flat. Nallamala Hills to the east. Erramala Range running north-south. The Krishna-Tungabhadra river valleys cutting through rocky terrain. Kondareddy Fort on higher ground. The whole district sits at 273 metres average elevation with significant terrain variation.
This is not high-altitude mountain terrain - but it's meaningfully different from coastal flat delta. Children from Kurnool's interior areas have spatial baseline accuracy of 28-36% on first AISSEE mock - above coastal flat districts, below true mountain districts.
Six to eight weeks of progressive spatial training from April: 66-74% accuracy. Better ceiling than Kakinada or Machilipatnam. And the district's Belum Caves geography - children aware of cave systems, underground rivers, stalactite formations - have specific three-dimensional spatial awareness that's unusual.
This district has rock paintings 40,000 years old. Ashokan rock edicts. Belum Caves with 4,500 BCE artefacts. Vijayanagara Empire forts. Dutch-built canals. Mughal-era inscriptions in Persian and Arabic on Kondareddy Fort walls.
Children who grow up knowing this layered history - from Palaeolithic cave paintings to Mughal inscriptions to the first Dalit CM of India - have historical GK frameworks of unusual depth. AISSEE's ancient, medieval, and modern India GK all benefit.
Kurnool was AP's first capital. The constitutional and political history of state formation is not abstract here - it's local identity. This creates stronger constitutional history GK awareness.
Diamonds after monsoon rains. Mineral resources - iron ore, limestone, dolomite, quartz. Science GK on India's mineral geography benefits from living near these resources.
Gap areas: defence organisation specifics, science GK static facts (inventors, discoveries), current affairs format. Systematic weekly coverage from April adds 10-15 marks.
Eight students. One specialist per section. Weekly mocks from month one. Real AISSEE format, real OMR, real time. Section-wise diagnosis. October honest parent conversation. OMR from day one. Medical round throughout.
Class 6 - Age 10-12. March 31 cutoff. Class 9 - Age 13-15. March 31 cutoff. Check the birth date now.
Kurnool district: Nandyal, Adoni, Alur, Banaganapalle, Yemmiganur - large district with varied terrain. Online batch: same teachers, same weekly mocks, same diagnosis across all mandals.
Families compare notes - some checking Sainik school coaching in Telangana fees - because when preparation works, the mandal name stops mattering.
April: 16-week Intelligence arc completes, Nallamala terrain spatial advantage fully converted, historical GK depth systematically activated. January - prepared.
October: Intelligence at week 10, spatial not consolidated. January arrives first.
"Kandanavolu" - the place where travellers maintained their equipment before crossing the river. Greased the wheels before the journey. AISSEE preparation is the same. Maintain your preparation before the January crossing. Start in April.
