Pattern recognition - the cognitive shift required

Children arrive at AISSEE pattern recognition with one dominant cognitive habit: applying rules they've been given. Every subject in school reinforces this. AISSEE breaks this habit.

The training makes this cognitive shift happen over 16 weeks.

Phase 1 (Weeks 1-4): Single-rule detection. The child encounters sequences with one hidden rule - rotation, count change, shading cycle. They learn to scan systematically rather than guess. By week 4, accuracy on single-rule sequences: 40-45%.

Phase 2 (Weeks 5-8): Two-rule detection. The same sequences now have compound rules. The child must find both. Most children initially see the first rule and miss the second. Training teaches them to verify: "Is there unexplained variation after I've accounted for Rule 1? If yes, find Rule 2." By week 8: 55-65% on compound patterns.

Phase 3 (Weeks 9-12): Mixed types, timed conditions. Real AISSEE timing introduced. Children develop speed alongside accuracy. By week 12: 65-72%.

Phase 4 (Weeks 13-16): Full section mocks, diagnosis, reinforcement. By week 16: 70-80%.

October start skips to Phase 4 by January - but Phase 4 accuracy is only possible if Phases 1-3 are complete. A child who starts in October arrives at Phase 3 by January. Accuracy: 55-60%.

Number series - why arithmetic speed is the wrong skill

Shivpuri's agricultural economy produces strong practical calculators. AISSEE's number series section uses this against them.

The fundamental problem: AISSEE's time constraint makes calculation unreliable for complex series.

Consider this series: 1, 2, 6, 24, 120.

A calculating child: 2-1=1, 6-2=4, 24-6=18, 120-24=96. The differences don't form an obvious pattern. They try differences of differences: 4-1=3, 18-4=14, 96-18=78. Still unclear. Time runs out.

A trained child: 1×1=1, 1×2=2, 2×3=6, 6×4=24, 24×5=120. It's factorial. Next: 120×6=720. Done in 8 seconds.

The trained child recognises the factorial pattern type because they've seen it 20 times from April. The calculating child has never seen factorial series before. The exam is their first encounter.

15+ series types. 20 repetitions each. April through July: functional recognition. August through December: automatic recognition.

Analogies and spatial reasoning

Analogies: Hindi-Bundeli bilingual background, 65-72% verbal accuracy without training. Numerical and logical: 6 weeks each from April.

Spatial: Gwalior division terrain - rocky, Vindhyan hills, Sakhya Sagar lake geography. Better than flat plains. First-mock accuracy: 25-32%. April training: 65-73%. October: 47-55%.
