This matters more for Yanam than for almost any other district in this series.
Most states have a Sainik School with a state quota - 67% of seats reserved for that state's children, who then compete only against each other. Assam has Goalpara. Bihar has Nalanda. Karnataka has Kodagu and Bijapur.
Puducherry - as a Union Territory - does not have a dedicated Sainik School with a UT-specific quota.
This means Yanam children compete under the All-India 33% general merit category at whichever Sainik School they apply to. Not against a state pool of a few million. Against the national applicant pool.
This makes preparation quality more decisive for Yanam than for almost any district covered in this series. There is no structural cushion. The Intelligence section - the section most families underprepare for - becomes the entire margin.
Pattern recognition, number series, analogies, spatial reasoning. Absent from every school curriculum - CBSE included. Untrained: 20-25%. After 16 weeks from April: 70-80%.
In a state-quota pool, a 50-60% Intelligence score might still be competitive. In the all-India 33% pool, it isn't. The national applicant pool includes children from states with established AISSEE ↗ coaching ecosystems - Bihar, UP, Rajasthan - where preparation culture is mature. Yanam children compete directly against this.
Pattern recognition - the full 16-week arc, no shortcuts available
Phase 1 (Weeks 1-4): Scanning habit. Orientation, count, shading, form. 38-46%.
Phase 2 (Weeks 5-8): Compound patterns. Two simultaneous rules. The "is there more unexplained variation?" check forms here - and only here. 55-65%.
Phase 3 (Weeks 9-12): AISSEE speed. 65-72%.
Phase 4 (Weeks 13-16): Full mocks, diagnosis. 70-80%.
October start: 55-60%. In a national pool, this is not competitive.
Number series - recognition across 15+ types
Each AISSEE series type needs 15-20 exposures before sight-recognition forms. April through July covers all types. October covers roughly half - and the types covered last (Fibonacci, factorial, prime-based) are precisely the ones that cannot be solved by calculation under any circumstances.
Analogies and spatial reasoning
Verbal: Telugu-French-English multilingual background (unique among AISSEE applicants). Telugu's classical literary tradition creates strong vocabulary. 67-74% verbal accuracy without training. Numerical and logical: 6 weeks each.
Spatial: Yanam is coastal delta - Godavari river mouth, flat alluvial terrain. First-mock: 18-25%. April training: 63-70%. October: 45-54%.
Five French settlements in India (Chandernagore, Pondicherry, Yanam, Mahe, Karaikal): specifically testable AISSEE colonial history GK. The order and dates of French acquisition is a precise, testable fact.
1954 transfer of French India to India: modern India's territorial integration - testable.
Godavari river system: one of India's major peninsular rivers - testable physical geography.
Yanam's enclave status (surrounded by Andhra Pradesh): India's unusual administrative geography - testable.
Eight students. One specialist per section. Weekly mocks. Section-wise diagnosis. October conversation. OMR from day one.
Class 6 - Age 10-12. March 31 cutoff. Class 9 - Age 13-15. March 31 cutoff.
